Sent Forth a Dove. Discovery of the Duyfken by Henderson James
University of Western Australia Press Small Quarto Size [approx 17.5cm x 24cm]. Very Good copy. Illustrated with colour and black & white photographs and reproductions of original drawings and maps. 218 pages In 1606 the little Dutch East India Company ship, Duyfken, came upon the coast of Cape York Peninsula. Its skipper Willem Janz, went to his grave without knowing that his crew were the first Europeans to land on the shores of the Sixth continent. His chart lay undiscovered in the archives for many years. Nearly four hundred years later, a small group of dedicated people set themselves the task of bringing the Duyfken story back to life, including the building of a replica of the ship. In this book the author reconstructs the fascinating career of this intrepid little ship, tells the story of the building of the replica and describes his own quest for the Duyfken.
